More particularly, I'd like to notif people that are seeking for some options that are stored in TVs.
In my case, people would submit their emails because they want to be informed that the product they are seeking is now available.
I'd like to :
- collect their emails, with a form in which their specify their expectations(for ex : product type, product color, etc ( = TVs))
- create a resource (related to a product) which contains its own TV values
- automatically send an email to people that match with the product.
How can I do this ?
Sorry for that ⇧ , I'm no dev but I wanna try
Personally, I'd use MailChimp or a similar service for this. You can create a feed from your site using getResources and watch that feed with MailChimp, automatically sending out emails when the feed is updated. The MailChimp API would give you control over how you collect/segment your names and would allow you to email said segments based on parameters produced by the feed. Your email list would be hosted on MailChimp, which features much more powerful list management features than MODX.

Theres an extra in the repo called
ResourceWatcher that sends emails when a resource is created or updated.
Hope that helps.
I use the combination of these two extras: Subscribe and Notify.
Subscribe lets the users self-register and Notify lets you send them a notice and a link when a page is created or updated.
Actually, you might have missed the last one. I found out that my host had a limit of 150 emails/hour.
About half my subscribers missed out. It wasn't an important notice so I let it go.
They changed it for me on request.
thank you all for your answers,
however Bob, the solution you tell about would not really fit to my TV-concern, or would it ? My resources aren't classified in categories, there are only TV values to distinguish them...

It might, depending on what you want to do. With Notify, sending the email is manual. I did it that way because users generally don't want to get an email every time you correct a typo on a page. For a new Resource or an update to an existing one, you can send an email with a few clicks. When you want to send an update or creation email, you click on a button in the Notify TV and get a form that will let you modify the message being sent and select the users it gets sent to. It will also post to Twitter and Facebook.

Subscribe lets users manage their preferences on what to be notified about. An upcoming version of Subscribe will also let them Manage their User Group memberships. You will be able to let them edit preferences, Users Groups, or both (or neither).
