    Hi,

I would like to make a site with online games. I am contemplating between Drupal and MODx. I would like to have it designed like that http://vilem.borec.cz/example.gif. I would like to enter info and link to flash for each game to the database, then to make an output as described on the picture. After user clicks on "Run a game" it would send him to a special page with ads for about 5 seconds, then auto-redirect to the page with flash game. Is it doable with MODx when I don’t know php (I can make just some tutorial-based modifications). Which modules I could use?

Thank you very much for your help!

Hi probably one of the more senior moderators should answer this, but I will give it a shot. First of all MODx is more of a framwork than a CMS, so what you are asking for is not possible "out of the box" with MODx. If Drupal support the feature you describe I don’t know.
Anywas, I think it should be a trivial task to implement the described function. But since you don’t know any PHP...
Sorry for not beeing able to give you more help.

        Hi Muskwa,

rich is right, its not possible without custom snippet/plugin as far as I know.

I am no expert, but I don’t think this is hard to do.

Create a document for every game, then for the directory page you would use a ditto call that would have a link to the page with the ads and a meta refresh which could be fed the id of the game page. Did I miss something? The hardest part would be to get the document id to the ad page but that could be done easily with a little php to extract this from the url string.

dev_cw: I was also thinking of the same pattern... since latest ditto has randomization feature, the pages can be served at random OR use openads to manage adverts.

            Pretty simple?

I am not really a ’coder’ but I could easily code this type of site with php. The only reason I would use a CMS for this scenario is user management. Overall I would say modx would be a lot easier to manage. A few templates and some ditto calls, a few custom snippets / chunks and you would be live in no time.

Do you mean something like http://www.crickweb.co.uk/games.html ?
It doesn’t load an advert before the game, but I’m sure that’s not to tricky!
