Managed to get a step further by using absolute paths. e.g. instead of localhost/modx I used C:\xampp\htdocs\modx
although now my error msg is:
[2013-10-28 07:07:40] (WARN @ C:\xampp\htdocs\modx\core\xpdo\om\xpdogenerator.class.php : 217) PHP notice: Undefined index: version

Move existing class files to regenerate them.

Done.
At first I jumped to the conclusion that the combination of forward and backslashes is throwing it. However it would probably give a not found error if that was the case.
(I don't normally work on Windows - this backslash malarky is annoying)
What could the undefined index be in this case?
and
Does anyone know why it seems to find the file when using the absolute path rather than localhost?
Thanks in advance!
