Maxigallery smoothgallery issue

Hi all, I am using Evo 1.0.4. I have added the following snippet

[!MaxiGallery? &display=`embedded` &embedtype=`slimbox` &max_thumb_size=`110` &pics_per_row=`5` &thumb_use_dropshadow=`1` &min_pic_size=`600`!]<

It works great, but I want to modify it. I want the 'thumbnail' pics in a scroller similar to smoothgallery. But when I try smoothgallery all it shows is one pic at a time in the scrollbar. I am looking more for something like this:

The 4th one down, with the thumbnails at the bottom (but not the info text). My knowledge is quite limited, but any suggestions welcome.

Forget maxi and move over to prettyphoto or fancybox2.

How would that work? Any chance of a rough idiot guide to doing this?
