    Hello

I would like to add a database of installers along with a map and was wondering what was the best way of keeping the data within the web site.

I can thing of a number of ways this could be implements like use a mapping service like Google Maps which keeps the data within their site and embed the code in my web site but I wondering whether their was a clever way of storing this within MODX's database.

The database is likely to grow to up to a 1,000 records and customers need to be able to find a local installer or by other criteria.

Any suggestions on the best way forward? Are there any addons that would help or is this more custom? Can this data be automatically extracted and pushed to google maps to be mapped?

    Kind regards

    James

If you just need a single table, it's relatively easy to create a custom table in the MODX DB in PhpMyAdmin, then set it up so you can use xPDO on it. I would do it this way: http://bobsguides.com/custom-db-tables.html.

You could use StoreLocator (from package management) and I've been working on something I call LocationX myself, which is due to be released but as priorities shifted to different projects, it's not entirely done yet (let alone documented). It's built to be used with Google Maps and all sorts of goodness like custom markers, search by location (ie 25 miles from London) and "browse the map and see new locations"-type searching. If you're interested and can handle pre-alpha code and lack of documentation, send me a PM and I'll shoot you a package.
