Any way to use modx without CURL?

Hi,

I'm asked to rebuild a website of a public highschool.
In France all of the schools are hosted by national official servers.

I received the answer that there's no way for them to install curl extensions for security purpose.

so is there a convenient way to work with Revo or should I go back to Evo ??

fsockopen? What's the other one package management spews in error logs?

Here's what the error log says on some of my sites with cURL enabled (not sure why, package management works)

You must enable allow_url_fopen, cURL or fsockopen to use remote transport packaging.

Can you enable any of the others?

You can always download the packages, put them in your core/packages folder, and then install them using the "Search locally for packages" option. Click the little arrow on the right side of the Download Extras button to get that option.

Well, may be I thought this won't work neither (in old previous Revo I started with, I think I remember I was not able to do so. Not sure.

But looking beyond the package management, don't some extras (Gallery, MIGX, babel...) need such php extentions?

I could be wrong, but I don't think too many of the standard Extras use cURL.

RefreshCache, OrderStatus, and some RSS feed extras are the only Extras I know of that use cURL.

You would have to turn off the MODX dashboard feeds too.

You could possibly have a problem with TinyMCE as well.

TinyMCE isn't the only RT editor you can use with MODX. Try CKEditor. I don't know if it's dependent upon cURL, but it is a viable option to TinyMCE. I think eIrite is available too (did I get that name wrong?).

elRTE isn't really usable; it doesn't connect with the file browser at all, as well as having a few other integration issues.

I looked at ckeditor. Once again it seams to be quite immature.

too bad...
However it supports quite well custom templates, a function that no one seams to be able to make working in TinyMCE.
