GetChildIds

Hi guys! There is a page called Blog on a site I'm working on and I want to show on it all its childrens (articles). I tried to use this snippet: http://modx.com/extras/package/getchildids but I don't understand why is not working. Also, I have Ditto installed and is not working either:


Any other alternative? I'm using an old version, 1.0.5. I really don't won't to get into the hassle of upgrading. Thanks.

At least disable the plugin immediately. A number of MODX Evo sites have been hacked.

Your call isn't correctly formatted and you don't need another snippet.

The basic call that I could imagine you need would be:



A somewhat more advanced call with some options could look like this:



A break down:

gets the parent ID and outputs its children

self-explanatory, order the output by ID and in descending order

use a bespoke template (chunk) for the content to be shown on the parent page

Shows all documents, not only those who are to be shown in the menu

Only output published documents, change to "0" to output all, or simply remove the element.

Using an older system:

I suggest upgrading to the latest version for all the modifications, although you could simply delete or disable the "Forgot Manager Login" snippet.

You can take a look at the changelog as well, to see if upgrading is absolutely necessary.

A number of MODX Evo sites have been hacked.

It's sadly and only because not everybody checks frequently the latest security updates published on the modx website or are too busy to update their websites. They should at least update the Forgot Manager Login to version 1.1.4 and not only prevent damage to their own websites but also prevent damage to the modx reputation. Maybe security updates should be published in a different way to prevent abuse. I can't think of something right now but maybe we should think about it all together and come up with something. You can subscribe to MODX email security notices, though I can't remember how. I did it a long time ago.

Indeed. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. You can provide Twitter, Facebook, feeds, email and even put security notices in the Manager, but you can't make site owners pay attention.

Among those who know better, the real measuring instrument isn't how many sites get hacked, it's how quickly the product developers respond to a vulnerability. MODx has always had a fix within hours of knowledge of a problem, and they have a multitude of ways of making the announcements.

Reminds me of a furious woman, shouting and accusing as she brought her computer into my shop for the third time with Windows trashed because of the Chernobyl virus. Her 9-year old son was with her. I opened the CD drive and pulled out the burned game CD - the same one I'd pulled out the first two times. The kid just shrugged and said he wanted to play the game (he got it from a friend at school). So I broke the CD and threw it in the trash, re-installed Windows again, and she didn't say a word when I presented my bill.
