I tried searching for these items but didn't find anything.

    1) Click New User Group under Access Controls. The popup dialog is positioned too high.

It may be tough to tell, but the light blue line at the top is my bookmark toolbar in FF17, and the dialog is under that in z-order. I changed the 'top' setting from -56px to 56px, and it looks fine here. YMMV Note in this next screenshot that the same blue line is a the top of my page.

    2) Save a new user group, then click New User Group again. It defaults to showing the data previously entered into that form. This is not the previously saved data. In the above screenshot you'll see that I set the text of the name to 'my group name', but then I clicked Close without saving. When going to create a new group it defaulted to that same unsaved text.
    3) Once I've created a User Group, I can't get back into it. Mouseover for all groups shows ?a=57 which is my access control page. I've tried using the Refresh Tree button as well as closing the browser. No joy.

Flush your permissions and reload cache. (security menu)

Also try deleting the core/cache files.

Have you read in detail the security documentation at the rtfm, AND Bob's Guides Security tutorials? Before you go much further, I do suggest digesting fully both these and any other resources.

Permissions in MODX can get really tricky. Locking one's self out of the manager is just one of the very easy things you could do without knowing it. That sucks! (fixable)

I used the security menu to flush permissions and reload cache.
        No change.
I tried Bob's CacheClear plugin but it did not clear cache.
(EDIT) I didn't use it properly. I just used it properly but it still didn't help.
        I manually cleared core/cache.
        No change.
        Re-flushed/reload.
        No change.

Summary, I'm still at #3 above, click a User Group and do not get any response at all. I am assuming I should see UG info, is that correct?

I'm moving slowly with security and this isn't my #1 priority right now, but I do need to understand it and get it working. As usual, it's tough to figure out how it works right now with all of the old info flying around. It seems to have changed between 2.0, 2.1, and 2.2. While I'm sure it's changed for the better, as a newcomer, I don't care, I just want to know how it works now so that I can use it. I'll do my best to identify, use, and improve on whatever info I find.

Thanks. [ed. note: captainstarbuck last edited this post 13 years, 8 months ago.]

          1. That may be an issue with the Firefox skin you're using; I have no such problem with my default 17.01 version.

          2. Again, I suspect a browser issue... the browser is configured to pre-populate form fields; sometimes it'll even helpfully supply you with a select drop-down of the last x values you entered into a form! I've run into that, and it drives me crazy. I think it's under Privacy, Search and Form History.

          3. Right-click and Update User Group doesn't do anything?

You might try clearing your browser cache and cookies. A left-over cookie can cause all kinds of weirdness in the Manager. Turning off the compress_js and compress_css System Settings is another thing to try.

Sue's suggestion #3 helped. I right-clicked on the group and selected Update.

Bob, as a matter of principle I don't clear my entire browser cache and the thousands of cookies for hundreds of sites - all to remedy an issue with a single site. That's a huge inconvenience to accommodate some one developer's faulty code.

I did, however, disable CSS compression and it didn't help. JS was already uncompressed.

Note that when I mouseover the UGs that I see the URL for UG Maint. Do you folks see that too?

I need to back up a step. Is left-clicking on a user group a valid operation? Is right-click the only way to do this? I opened IE9 to Manager and I see exactly the same thing - clicking any node in the UG tree has no effect. I'm very sorry - is this a wild goose chase?

              Thanks!

Yes. A lot of actions in the Revo Manager are only on right-click, and there's no real indication of this. You'll get some surprises if you just right-click on stuff.

As far as handling cookies, you can open Firefox's Preferences and go to the Privacy settings, display the cookies, and search for the domain in question. No need to delete everybody. It is a few extra steps to take, but every now and then the stale cookies can cause problems so it's worth trying when odd things are going on.

There is also an issue with the browser caching .js files; I've found Firefox especially stubborn about insisting on using its outdated cached version.
