MODX is broad, deep, powerful. It will take a while to discover just how broad, how deep, and how powerful. But for an absolute beginner with MODX (me), who has just installed Evo (rather than Revo, due to one of the Extras), where do I start?

I create a web page, and I have a section that is to be dynamic content - content that the site owner can change. What is the best resource (tutorial, etc.) for that one functionality?

I uploaded the test site, which is feature-rich - and a bit overwhelming - to start there.

Please excuse the basic level of my question, and please point me to the most basic tutorial.

Thanks in advance for your consideration!

    Dennis

Out of curiosity, which extra is it that swayed your decision to start with Evo?

            Thanks eladnova, sitecms!

            I will dig right in!

Frogabog, the Extra is one that links the phpBB forum software to MODX:
            MODxBB
            http://modx.com/extras/package/modxbb0.9.4
(which was just updated to work with Evo 1.07 and phpBB 3.0.11)

Are you aware that this forum is an extra for Revo, and is now available as a Revo package?

                Hi Susan,

When you say "this forum", are you referring to the forum we are on right now (which I think is the "Discuss" forum), or do you mean Revolution now has an Extra that allows the phpBB forum to be integrated?

For one of the new sites I'm just starting, a phpBB forum will be the main functionality of the entire website, but other pages need to be created that forum members can log-in to and interact with.

No disrespect to this forum software, but phpBB is full of features that I want to use (and I know that software pretty well.)

                  Hi Dennis
What kind of features are you referring to? Maybe it's the type of info which would be useful to the Discuss developers.

On a side note, having used phpBB and a few other Forums, I always found two things
                  1. They required constant security patches
                  2. Anytime a patch was applied, my own CSS and images were wiped by the newer default files
Eventually I gave up using Forums in my sites and the conversations moved to other platforms such as Twitter and Facebook etc

Possibly things have changed on my gipe list (this was several years ago) but it *may* be worth sticking with Discuss. The integration between Discuss and your actual MODX site is bound to be more robust than MODX and a 3rd party service?
