I just have made the experience that if I developed a site locally then pushed it to the live server, nothing worked^^...and when you're close to a deadline and this happens, it basically sucks,
Yes, I have been there myself a couple of times. In my case I found out that 4 configurations where the cause of this problem. 1. wrong settings of config.inc.php on the server 2. .htaccess needs to be configured differently on the server for FURLS to work 3. file base path and 4. file manager path needs to be configured differently on the server. Hope this might help.

Thanks everybody, for all the replies showing me a bigger picture on trying to sync between laptop and server. Too many issues with the database so I will stick to what Bob also mentioned. Keeping 2 Tabs open in firefox, one for the manager on my laptop and a second one for the manager on-line, and then copy and paste between them. Collect all static files in 1 folder and use ftp sync instead of the file manager. I think this is as far as it goes. Greetings Brian.

In these cases it was more a modx incompatible server environment that a client already had and I had to take over (but I didn not have access until day x ...)
