I have been following the documentation and have been successfully in integrating a new template but I can quiet follow how to get the self generating menu to work?
I get how to place the snippet into the template but not sure what to do now?
When I edit a page, I create a name for the menu title and also tick show in menu but no luck, is there something else I need to set up for this to happen. Any advice appreciated. Thanks
<div id="sidebar">
<!-- menu and other blocks goes here -->
[[MenuSnippet?id=`0`&activelink=`active`]]
</div>

That was a generic example. There is no snippet actually named "MenuSnippet"; you need to replace that with the name of the snippet you are actually using. MODx comes with the "Wayfinder" menu snippet installed, so to use that your call would look like this:
[[Wayfinder? &startId=`0` ...]]
Each snippet has its own list of optional arguments; see the documentation for the snippet or the comment section in the beginning of the snippet code for an argument list. Wayfinder is extensively documented; you can download the documentation
here
Thanks for the explanation, it worked a treat. [[Wayfinder? &startId=`0`]]
