Multiple Contexts and Friendly URL's

New to the forums but have been developing on modx a few years now

Basically got a fairly large site with a portal page that then leads to a south african site and a united kingdom site

Ive set it up with the south african site and the united kingdom site as contexts in subfolders

Folder structure
/ portal
/sa/ south african site
/uk/ united kindgom site

When I turn on FURL's the portal page works and the home page of the south african and united kingdom work but inner pages just display the portal page but with the correct friendly url

Any one ever come across anything like this before?

My ht.access file in the subfolders are as follows

Are you using actual subfolders with custom index.php files? It would be easier to use the default index.php and a plugin to switch Contexts based on the first segment of the URI requested. Also, make sure your Contexts are configured with the proper site_url, base_url, etc. to match the subfolder each Context represents.

Thanks for your reply, yes I am ive got a ht.access and a index.php in the subfolders I'l try again with the contextrouter plugin however this screwed things up last time is that the plugin you would use?

You should use contexts, and use a Gateway plugin (http://rtfm.modx.com/display/revolution20/Using+One+Gateway+Plugin+to+Manage+Multiple+Domains) for the route of domains (or use my Gateway Manager; http://modx.com/extras/package/gatewaymanager ;-) hehe)

Please note that for your rewrite rules to take effect you need to rename ht.access to .htaccess.

Or use my Gateway Manager ;-) haha

Tried both and still struggling always just redirects back to the home page is there any other way of having www.website.com/uk/ and www.website.com/sa/ without using contexts?

Why dont you use subdomains?? That's much easier to config then subfolders. You then can use the www. variant for the UK language, and use sa.website.com variant for the SA language.. The only thing you should keep in mind is that the subdomain should point to the main domain "public_html" folder and stays in the address bar of your browser. Withing DirectAdmin this is called "Domain Pointers". Then you can easily use the Gateway Manager.

With the structure you're now using you should also do some trics in your .htacess file.. And besides that you're creating a subfolder level for search engines, which is not a good praktice I think.

Contexts are likely the best way to manage the sites (IMO), but if you don't want to use that, you can just set up your resources with regular friendly urls and no weird stuff like Bert's Gateway Manager. Are friendly urls working at all for you?

Just looking back at the htaccess you posted... if the htaccess file is already in the subfolder, you don't have to add the RewriteBase of /sa/ - just leave that to / in that case.
