Setting a default directory for the file browser

For my Editor user group I have restricted access to a specific directory in the file manager. However, when I log in as an Editor and select the Files tab on the left navigation the select list shows '1' and the only directory displayed is 'Media'. Only when activating the select list does the directory to which I've restricted access appear as an option.

Is there a way of making the directory to which I've restricted access display by default so the user doesn't have to browse to it?

I reckon this must have been a caching issue on my machine which appears to have resolved itself.
