Manager form customization for Articles - best practice?

In Articles is the best way to hide the Template & Advanced Settings tabs from a back-end user the method described by michelle84 (3rd comment) in this tracker bug/request, or is there a better way?

You don't necessarily need to use Articles. Look at form customization. There's a great video about it here: http://rtfm.modx.com/display/revolution20/Customizing+the+Manager

I am using form customization, but there is a problem with it when used with Articles.
