    I was wondering if people on this forum ever have had clients who want to change a particular tag name throughout the site, later on. We've seen this a couple of times now. Clients add tags to their posts (using an autotag TV) and after a few months, they decide that the tag 'flowers' should really be named 'flowers and plants' and they want to change this on the entire site and assume this is possible (as it is possible in Wordpress).

    Right now this isn't easily done, if I'm correct, because the values are stored directly in the autotag-tv field and not in a seperate table with key/values where the values can be changed independently from the resources.

    I'm curious to know if other people on this forum have been in this situation and what solutions they have implemented.

      The easiest solution I have found in this case is to get the TV id and run a find and replace directly in the MySQL database.

      You would have to be sure though that tags only matches what you wanted it to... e.g you want to match tag but there are other elements that start with tag (tagname) so make sure you test this on a copy of the main table.

      Example of MySQL replace:
      update [table_name] set [field_name] = replace([field_name],'[string_to_find]','[string_to_replace]') WHERE [field_name] = [TVIDHERE];

      I hope this helps.

        Thanks jonrawlins, that's exactly what I would do. Good to know that there are more folks who would take that approach smiley

        But I wonder if there are people who have done this another way, providing their clients a way to do it for themselves. And I wonder if this is a common request from clients or not. My clients might be angry that they can't change a tag name themselves, because they had expected that it would be possible. I wonder if you think clients are right to expect this functionality, or if it's not that common that you can change a tag name afterwards. Hope you understand what I mean laugh

          You could always setup a CMP... Then for the tags you could have a multiple choice on the article however to add new tags they would need to do it through the new tagging CMP... At least then, the tagging multiple choice would be id based in the db and when changing the tags via the CMP it would be automatically updated.. Not something I have done but another idea for you.
