How do I decompress tar.gz on a server?

So I’ve uploaded MODx-0.9.6.tar.gz to my server (Linux Hosting) using a simple FTP program. How do I unzip (decompress) the file on my server? I’ve tried using the file manager on the server (my client is using Godaddy for hosting). I’m working on a Mac 10.4.10.

Anyone know how to do this? Any programs out there that handle this with simple commands? I don’t know any PHP, so any suggestions using a program that handles that would be awesome.

Flinx, do you have SSH accesss to your server, if yes it’s quite easy - a trick I just learned last week

after loggin in, type this : tar -zxvf MoDx-0.9.6.tar.gz

On the other hand, Modx file size isn’t so big, you can actually untar it from your harddisk, then upload everything to server.
