Can't View MODX Filesystem Items

I recently moved a locally developed site to a production server, followed all the steps and everything seems to work correctly except the small black arrow that normally appears next to the Filesystem folder in the Files tab has disappeared and I cannot seem to browse or upload any files. Note: The Resources and Elements files are fine.

I performed an upgrade from 2.2.4 to 2.2.5 today and again everything was successful, yet I still cannot access the filesystem files. I have cleared the cache, flushed permissions, flushed all sessions and cleared the browser cache but still no joy.

Has anyone come across this before and how could I potentially resolve the issue. I only picked up on this when trying to upload a CSS file last week.

Did you make any changes to the default Filesystem media source? What is the basePath and baseUrl? Does PHP have permission to read the files/folders in the new location?

The basePath and baseUrl were updated from local to live when I made the upgrade changes. I can navigate to the site and everything works okay except the Filesystem. Let me know if you are referring to something different.

Yes. The folder and subfolders/files are chmod'd to 0755.

Try manually removing all the folders under the core/cache/ folder. (that's almost always worth a try whenever something weird is going on).

Hi, I tried that but all I get now is a white screen when navigating to the manager. I have also cleared the browser cache again, just in case.

@sottwell - Thank you for your reply, I managed to successfully remove the cache items manually and I no longer have the white screen issue though it has not resolved the issue with the filesystem. I think I may have a wider system issue though, as when performing the upgrade, I had to set 0777 permissions to the cache, export, packages etc. folders to perform the upgrade. To have the cache writable, I have to keep it at 0777 which doesn't seem right.

Thoughts anyone?

It depends on your server configuration. Check the "view" link for the phpinfo of the System Information. If you see something like "apache module" near the top of the display, then 777 is probably what is needed for all writable folders, and 666 for files.

Thanks, @sottwell. I managed to figure out (partly) my Filesystem issue. I added a new Media Source as a test and applied assets/ to the baseUrl & basePath and I can now view the folders but no files. Weird - I'm making an assumption permissions may be incorrectly set or a path is wrong somewhere, but I couldn't be sure.

It is possible that the default setting (when you installed MODx) is to set the permissions on newly created files to the wrong permissions for your system. This does not appear to be editable after installation; or at least I've never been able to find where to make any changes.

If you look at the files in your FTP client it should show the permissions/ownership of the files created by MODx. That includes files moved into place from a file upload.

@sottwell -thanks again for replying back to me. I have checked folder permissions on both local (dev) and remote (prod) folder, subfolders and files and everything looks to be aligned permission wise.

I noticed when checking other resources within the upgraded site that they were not opening in an editable view so I think something may have gone awry when merging the files. I have reverted back to my original back-up which is Revo version 2.2.4 whilst I keep investigating.
