Restricting mgr access to a container

Hi Guys,
Trying to understand the access control. How do I restrict a user to a container in the manager tree. I basically want certain users access to specific containers for editing purposes i.e

Home
>container1
>>container1a
--child1
--child2
>container2
>container3
...
I would like to create a user who only has access to say container 1 and children within for edit purposes.
In my attached screenshot I created a resource group called division1 and duplicated the Content Editor access policy and called that division1 also. I also checked out Shaun McCormick's screencast but cant get it working. The user sees everything.
Any help appreciated.

All resources have to be put into a resource group that the user does not have access to. Then put the resources you want him to access in his group. If a resource is not protected explicitly, then it is available to all.

I just cant get it working to show just a designated container. Any examples on the forums or in the docs? Thanks
