    Hi,

I’m new to MODx, but after trying it out on a fairly small site I’m thoroughly impressed.

We have some large commercial projects coming up which I had originally thought would be built using Drupal but I’m now having second thoughts and would prefer to use MODx. I love its flexibility and ease of use.

However, I will need to convince clients of its commercial pedigree. Can anyone point me in the direction of any fantastic commercial / high profile sites built using MODx? I have had a look through the forum and there are some great sites in the showcase section but most seem to be of the "I’m new to MODx, how am I doing" kind of level.

I suppose an alternative question for this post could have been - is MODx ready for large commercial projects? My brief contact with MODx suggests it is, but does anyone else have a strong view?

    Thanks a lot

    Stephen

I appreciate ’large’ is ambiguous but I thought it would be interesting to see people’s interpretations. My interpretation would be: high traffic (again ambigious), feature rich, many sections, several different editors with different responsibilities etc.

The girls.fr is a fantastic site - great example.

You have a smiley after your nyt.com comment. But is that really so ridiculous? Could such a site consider something like MODx or is that so completely absurd that everyone with any experience of MODx reading this is now rolling about laughing? What is MODx missing that would make it a realistic choice for a NYT?

Tying into NYT’s publishing system for one ... that’s a huge project (they have the same articles shared between print and online).

The Burton / Motorola snowboard series was running for MODx for two years but is now offline (I guess the project is over). There’s several very large educational institutions running MODx with thousands of pages. There’s several web security companies running MODx as well. More and more we see larger projects being deployed on top of MODx. We’ve got some larger sites in development that will leverage MODx as well.

Future iterations will support really robust caching systems like Memcached, so scalability really shouldn’t be an issue. Versioning and rollbacks should be coming too.

That’s great - all sounds very encouraging for the future.

Do you have URLs for any of the sites you mention? Or does anyone else have any great examples that will help build the case for MODx?

          thanks a lot

The ’You and your site’ forum has some good examples with a few ’big’ sites for universities and stuff like that. I am always currious to see what projects use MODx.

Needs an updated list, but scroll to the bottom (and a good general overview of where we came from): http://www.modxcms.com/modx-looking-back-looking-foward.html
