Answered Your MODX_CORE_PATH is invalid

    Hello,

    i have a problem installing modx revolution 2.2.5 in advanced mode.
    My core path won't be accepted and i don't see the reason for it.
    In the manual it says, you can even install the core outside the root
    to increase the security, so i chose to install advanced, after i deleted
    my standard installation and the mysql db and created a new one.
    I am using a VServer with CentOs 6.3 (Plesk 11).

    My folder structure for the website looks like this :

    /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/subdomain/ (with the /setup folder inside)

    and the installtion asks for the core directory which is at :

    /var/modx/core/ (755 // /cache/ = 777 // /config/config.inc.php =777)

    but its not accepting this path.
    As soon as i put this /core/ folder under the subdomain like :

    /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/subdomain/modx/core/

    the installation would run, so i guess it has something to do with the
    permissions in apache or somewhere i don't know about.

    I would really appreciate help, because i am already trying diffrent
    folders for hours - but it's not working out.

      When you run the advanced installation, usually it will take you on a page where you can define the paths, including changing their names, eg:

      • /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/subdomain/core -> /var/www/vhosts/mycore, (yes, it's beyond the web root)
      • /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/subdomain/manager -> /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/subdomain/changedmanagerfolder, or
      • /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/subdomain/connectors -> /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/subdomain/mymoo

        I know, but the installation is not getting this far, and also won't let me select /var/modx/connectors/. So if i get you right, because what you write is not answering my question at all, you are trying to ignore my question, because modx advanced is not able to do, what is written in the manual as feature ?
        I mean installing the core outside the rootfolder ?

          connectors folder MUST be web accessible, so it should be placed alongside with manager, although you can change its name.
          you may only move the core folder.

          AFAIK, what the rootfolder means is out of the httpdocs or public_html folder, not beyond the domain's folder.

              Let's agree this first, web root folder, not your server's root folder.
              In this case, web root means the folder where user visits the homepage.
              For the main domain, then it would be more/path/inhere/domain.com/
              For the sub domain, it would be more/path/inhere/domain.com/subdomain/

              Try to access your site with FTP, since it would only open the server's drive in your domain's scope.

              My guess for your server: /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/httpdocs/subdomain/
              Go ahead, google for var/www/vhosts.
              In common situation, it is followed by /domain.name/httpdocs/
              httpdocs is your web root.
              Or, may be your server's structure is different. I have no idea, unless I can see it.

              So, anyway,
              for the subdomain installation, the core/ folder can also be placed beyond the main domain's web root folder.
              for instance:
              + ...
+ core/
+ ...
+ subdomain1/
++ core/

+ subdomain2/
++ core/

+ httpdocs
++ assets
++ connectors/
++ manager/
++ ht.access
++ index.php

++ subdomain1/
+++ ...
