I have a client with three distinct and separate web sites....however they are all under a single domain name. The just change the prefix of the DNS entries to point to the individual folders.
example:
site1.domain.com
site2.domain.com
site3.domain.com
They are wanting to move all the sites to modX, but I’m curious if I can do this with a single installation of modX? I’m not sure this is possible or even preferable. I really thing three installs of modx would be a pain for them to manage and deal with.
Since the same people are in charge of all three sites, it would make a lot of sense, from a simplicity of use standpoint, to give them a single point to handle all the sites. One login, one address, etc.
Handling the templates would be simple enough. I’d just create three different containers and then each container would be a "site" will all the different templates and such.
I guess the question is, can I accomplish this in such a way so that I can make the DNS work to point the names to the correct containers in modX? Since there are no actual "folders" on the server, I’d be pointing (somehow) into the modX folder/site structure.
I hope I’m making sense here.
I’d love any and all input and suggestions on how I might do this.
Thanks.
Justin
I’m actually wondering about this myself.
I would like to be able to use subdomains or even totally different domains pointing to the same modx install.
