Im a experienced webdeveloper, but new here and I am trying to create my first MODx website. If anyone can tell me about most important, basic tips/rules to create large game catalog with advanced search? I need also information about good plugins that I can use. Thanks! The best (and most scalable) way would be to create a custom data model for your catalog data, and create a set of Snippets to render that data in a few simple dynamic views (i.e. MODX Resources). Those views can take care of their own caching and the benefits of having a reusable data model exclusively for your custom data will far outweigh the seemingly simpler approach of representing each catalog Item as a Resource with a set of Template Variables.

Have you checked out MIGXDB? http://rtfm.modx.com/display/ADDON/MIGXdb
It has to be the quickest way to get up and running with custom data, especially if you're uneasy about delving too deep into custom manager pages.
