Hi Folks, Does anyone know how MODX uses the following:
    (1) Imagemagik
    (2) PDO, with database driver
    (3) MyISAM storage engine

I have a customer who is insisting they want to stick with 1&1 hosting on their business linux package, which is not a dedicated server (i normally host my websites on my own server), but 1&1 say they do not support the following features listed above (as listed as part of the MODX revo requirements) and i will need to upgrade to a dedicated server (which is a LOT more). Just wanted to get a better understanding............

      1. ImageMagic is used in generating the thumbnails for the file manager, although it may be sufficient to have GD support.

      2. MODx Revolution is built using xPDO, an extension of PDO, so the PHP PDO drivers for MySQL are definitely required for Revo.

      3. MyISAM is actually the default storage engine of MySQL; I can't imagine why anyone would say that they don't support it.

That's interesting. How does it pay off against the services of a hosting company ?
I tried it once my self, but gave up. Finding a place in the basement or garage.
Cooling either with, air, liquid or fanless heatsinks. What server os to use, taking
care of redundancy, what up and down bandwidth to use, fiber, cable or adsl.
We'll the idea of it still keeps going in my head. I like the idea of having limitless
harddisk webspace, databases, ftp and direct maintenance and backup control.
Coming summer I will try again with these fanless heatsinks who don't need
        any cooling maintenance. http://www.quietpc.com/nof-cr-100a

Emily MODX works perfectly fine on 1&1 I have installed MODX without any issues on it so I'm not sure what issues you may be having.

Hi Everyone, thanks for your comments.

Sitecms, my post was probably slightly misleading, i just rent a virtual server and host all my websites on that which works brilliantly.

Ben, i haven't tried to install it on 1&1, i put the question to them as to whether they support the MODX Revo requirements on their Business Linux package, which is the package my customer is currently on with his old website (static not cms). Their response was 'no' and on further questions from me they listed the items above as 'not supported'. What package do you have with them, is it a dedicated server or business linux, or other?

            Thanks for your help smiley

Emily I have the cheapest linux package and it's shared hosting and it works great never had any issues I would just install MODX in a subdirectory and see what happens.

              Good Luck.
