Hey Folks, i'm after some advice on what the best approach is to achieve the following:

I want to have a two-columned template, where the website administrator can select what information they want to appear in this column according to the page. This information will range from a selection of quick links, to latest news, to whats on, contact details etc. i want them to be able to either enter rich text directly if it is specific to a particular page, or take the content directly from a pre-defined resource (so that it can be reused elsewhere in the website).

I know how to achieve the two separately, using MIGX and getresources, but want to give the administrator to choose one or the other and control the order of what appears where?

Don't know if the above makes sense, but any ideas anyone, or do you know of a different way of achieving this?

    Using Revo 2.2.5

    Many thanks

      Hi Emily,

Weve done something similar in the past using this snippet: http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Create_TV-Based_Chunks

Basically you define your content in the chunks (including your snippet calls) and then use a tickbox or similar on the page to choose which chunks you display.

Now you cannot choose the order very easily but the approach works.

In order to use MIGx you will need to use the MIGx tv on the page as well as the switch &docid=`+id` (dont forget your square brackets) in order to use it for the page your on.

The other alternative is the IF snippet and define the content according to the page your on eg
      [[If? &subject=`[[*id]]` &operator=`equals` &operand=`14` &then=`display this code` &else=`display other code` ]]

Hope that helps somewhat - it might not be ideal to your requirements but as i say i hope it helps

you can prepare different chunks for each type of block and use MIGX with the multiple form feature, where you have a listbox, which switches between this different chunks and switches your formtabs

If they choose 'linklist' you can have another MIGX-field in the MIGX-Form to add links to the list.
If they choose 'getResources' you can have different fields in your MIGX-Forms which you can send to the getResources-snippet-tag.
          -------------------------------

you can buy me a beer, if you like MIGX

Thanks for your responses. Bruno17, i don't know much about the multiple form feature in MIGX but will read up on it and see where that gets me.
