    Hi,
I am trying to write a website where parents can share website links for children.
I am thinking of using MODX as a base for this website.
I'd like you to tell me whether it is sensible and some advice for it.

The main feature I'll need will be:
The ability for parents to login, after registration, perhaps using their facebook or gmail account).
The ability for registered users to create a new site review.
The ability for other users to vote and comment it.

I am reasonably comfortable with PHP but completely new to MODX.
I don't really waste re-inventing the wheel, do you have any advice to kick start this?

      Hi Paganaye!

Obviously I'm always gonna advocate for MODX, so of course I think it's a great framework for your project. What you want to do doesn't seem to be that complicated, in fact there are already installable modules that you could use for 2 of the 3 features you listed:

For the creation of "a new site review" you'll probably need to create a custom table to store the information. It may sound daunting but there's some great documentation here:

I'm a graphic designer and I chose MODX because I didn't have to modify my design process or conform to a certain way of doing things (like in other CMSs). I don't have a strong PHP background and I'm able to create some cool sites with seemingly complicated functionality.
