    Hi there, as I am becoming more and more proficient with MODX and its various features, i have decided to make an attempt at running an rss feed for my site, however i cannot get it to work properly.

    In fact, just running the default install of modx, and installing the sample website, the rss feed fails when i try to open with a browser?

    Is this a known issue, or a server config problem?

    I am using wampserver 1.7.2, modx 0.9.6 and everything else i have configured to run on the site is working great except for this. I have tried the modx default rss call, made my rss page the suggested name, type is text/xml, uncacheable, unsearcheable, nont rich text

    What am i missing?

      Have you got your template set to blank?

      If you could post your Ditto call too that may help.

        Is the RSS feed document published?
        Can you post the URL of the feed?

            No help here, but also trouble getting RSS to work, and a bit more information.

            I have tried clean installs, locally on my os X machine, php 5.2.2, and on godaddy linux hosting php version 5.1.4. Both use apache 1.3.xx.

            I do notice in the modx manager, documents tree view on the left hand side, a red "M" with a smaller red "x" is the icon for the RSS feed in both cases. This is the only icon with such marking. That particular icon likely signifies some kind of problem, but I haven’t specifically been able to locate the significance of that icon in the docs anywhere yet.

            When I click on the "View RSS Feed" on the welcome page, no results in the browser, and an httpd error log entry "File does not exist: /Library/WebServer/Documents/modx/feed.rss" which I am thinking is the problem. I don’t see the file "feed.rss" anywhere when I expand a fresh download of modx.

            Any help sincerely appreciated.

              @dsumanik: I can’t bring up your site at all. Only the MODx manager login page comes up, but the server never responds to a homepage request or the RSS feed request. I was going to check your homepage to see what URL you were using to specify the feed. If you’re using friendly URLs, and your friendly URL suffix is ".html", and your RSS feed is "rss.xml" then the actual URL of the feed would be "rss.xml.html". Just wanted to look at that, but can’t. (Edit: I had no idea until today that you could override the default extension just by having an extension in your alias.. so if the alias is "rss.xml" then the URL is "rss.xml". Cool.)

                Try renaming you ’feed.rss’ alias to maybe just ’RSSFeed’.

                If your server is complaining about not finding the file then it could just be handling that type ’rss’ a little differently than it would.

                  It seems your template chunk isnt correct, I get this error:
                  XML Parsing Error: not well-formed
                  Location: http://www.sumanix.ca/feed.rss
                  Line Number 1, Column 3:<?
                  --^

                  Please check the Ditto’s default rss template for more info.

                    Something is finding its way into your feed. I’m not sure what but it may be something to do with the ditto call.

                    This is what the source of your feed contains:

                    <?
                    // Use the following syntax $param = 'value';
                    ?><?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>

                    <rss version="2.0" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">
                    	<channel>

                    This is what my feed looks like:

                    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>

                    <rss version="2.0" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">
                    	<channel>

                    I would try removing the commentschunk=`Comments` parameter from your Ditto call and retest.
