Hello there,
I’m currently setting up a website for a local target rifle club, they have asked me to create a members only section where details and information not meant for the public can be held. I have no problem doing that, but i have been asked to create a user for every member of the club. The only information i have is thier first names and membership number (which is to be the password)...my question is, is it possible to create web users without adding an email address?
any help would be greatl appreciated
thanks

You would have to modify the /manager/processors/save_web_user.processor.php file to not throw an error if there is no email. You could try just commenting out the whole email-checking block (lines 70-73) and (lines 89-102); that should do the trick. Your database might get unhappy about the empty $email value, so you could remove that from the insert query (lines 143-144); I would be more inclined to just add a line, $email = ’’; after commenting out the email validation checks.
I have done this before, and simply commented out the redundancy check (lines 89-102) and used a dummy email address (
[email protected]), so that there would be minimal interference with the manager functions. The dummy email address for every user didn’t bother me any. If you wanted to go that route, you could simply use
[email protected] to avoid any core hacks at all.
