    Hi MODX people,

    I rented a viratual server and I am runing most of my own sites on it. In the last days I launched a new site which i cant get to perform at least well. Its slow like hell.

    At first I thoght this might be related to some calculation program I have running at the server 24/7. But when i turned it off, I could not measure any improvement.

    Here, you can see the performance tests I made and its clear that this site responds way too slow: http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/?testurl=www.luisenviertel.com#!/LubdMIkWj/www.luisenviertel.com

    Same server, same apache configuration, same MODX version (2.2.4):
    http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/?testurl=www.luisenviertel.com#!/hsM2LsLXp/www.zuckerspiel.de

    I cant find out what takes the server so long to respond at all. If you hit the "history" button, you can see the .. well, history of testt i've been running.

    It seems that its a server problem, but as its the same server - what else could it be? Any hints?

    Best regards,

    Guido

      Basics first: are all your snippet calls cached?

      Eg:
      <!-- cached -->
      [[mySnippet]]

      <!-- uncached -->
      [[!mySnippet]]

        I am quite sure but will check for the landing page and all included chunks and snippets. Give me a minute.

              I just deleted a javascript from the foundation framework. And now the site a lot faster...
              /assets/templates/flexibility/javascripts/modernizr.foundation.js

              Its not a big script, how can it slow down the site so much?

                Perhaps because modernizr tests every page for all kinds of compatibility issues, and in the case of this customized version it also tests for device specifications.

                That Foundation framework seems to me to have an awfully lot of stuff going on in the background, CSS preprocessors and such. While these are great for quick prototyping during development, they do slow down the final presentation of the page and may not be totally appropriate for the final live site.

                  I also put the openlayers script in the bottom of the page. That seems to improve a bit.

                  Unfortunately I didnt get the smartOptimizer running :/

                    If you use the minified foundation.js, it includes modernizer. Or, recompile all the .js files into a new min.js if some of them aren't being used. It ships now with all the js files uncompiled, as well as with an enabled foundation.min.js so it's kinda overkill for production out of the box in the first place (intended).

                      I did a lot of testing in the meantime. I am quite sure that the time until first response has nothing to do with the javascript. In short terms: the first response takes over 4 seconds - in average. Other sites take between 1 and 2.

                      I guess that there are some caching issues somewhere. But I cant figure out where.
