Hi guys. Sanity check please:
Upgrading MODX Revo for the first time by uploading the modx-2.2.5-pl.zip
Do I simply upload the ZIP folder and 'unpack' on the server.
Normally, when I do this on my local PC, it still contains everything within a folder called 'modx-2.2.5-pl'
Do I then use my File Manager (Hosting Control Panel) to place files and folders in the root?

Yes. It will behave the same on the server. In cPanel file manager, right click the zip folder and there will be an extract option. Other servers have extraction scripts in the control panel.
I've not had a problem with the overwrite vs merge when using the server but you may want to check your settings just to be sure.
If you have shell access then you simply do the "unzip modx-2.2.5-pl.zip" and copy files from folder "modx-2.2.5" to your public_html folder or where your current modx is.
After replacing the files dont forget to run /setup/ again so that upgrade is done.

The only time I've ever had the overwrite vs merge problems is with OS X, as it overwrites entire folders rather than merging. So when I want to update I use a terminal and a UNIX command line, which merges as usual.
