I cannot seem to find much info on forums regarding advanced MODx installation.

I successfully installed MODx 2.2.5 on Windows 7, running Zend CE PHP version 5.3.9-ZS5.6.0 Apache 2.2.x

I followed the instructions from this article to the letter: http://rtfm.modx.com/display/revolution20/Advanced+Installation In fact I did it roughly 13 times over, just so that I knew I wasn't missing something.

I moved the core folder outside root. However, when it came time to rename contexts.. specifically I was interested in renaming the connectors and the manager folder, I entered the path and after tabbing to the next field from text field to text field, the check boxes were enabled.

So far so good.. I installed, saw the next checklist.. but instead of seeing my folder names I saw the check for the default names.. I installed anyway... but after inspection discovered that the folders were named their defaults.

I got no errors.. And yes I did ensure that the folders were writable. I even tried in one installation from scratch, to create the folders myself in the hopes that that would resolve the problem.

No luck. So now I am living with it like this, but the whole point of me trying to get the advanced install to work was to go the whole way and have as a secure of an installation as possible.

So is this a bug? Or is there something that was left out of the original article?

    I would appreciate any help...

    Thanks

Did you rename the path AND the url appropriately? The actual file location and url mapping do need to match.

        Hi Opengeek,

Yes I named the path something like C:/path/to/my/custommanagerfilename
then the next field below it to /custommanagerfilename/

I did the same for manager/ and connectors/... so one field is the full path and the next below it is the folder name.. is that correct?

        thanks,

Take a look at the paths and URLs in core/config/config.inc.php.

BobRay - I am using MODx version 2.2.5. I checked my Core folder and the paths show the default: /connectors/ and /manager/ But this config file only gets created AFTER I run through the installation though, right? So I cant go in after the fact and change these paths?

Setup is supposed to set all those paths correctly, but you can certainly edit them if they're incorrect.

Also, check the path in the modx_workspaces table in PhpMyAdmin and the four config.core.php files (you can edit those as well):

               MODX root directory
               /manager/
               /connectors/
               /setup/includes/

For the most part, those are the only places MODX consults for paths, though sometimes MODX extras have paths for their own use.

Ok thank you Sir. I will check those.. I don't mind manually setting them. And its great if those four config files and the workspaces table are the only places that the path appears. I will experiment with manually setting them. But I do feel this is a bug.

Actually I just checked the path refd in the workspaces table and all is says is {core_path} So its not statically set... I guess I should leave it this way? And just change the 4 config file references?

Thanks BobRay.. I think that solved the issue.
I just had to rename the paths in the main config file in my core folder, and delete everything from the cache folder.. and all is working fine now. I have custom named folders for connectors and manager in MODx.

I'm glad it worked for you. You're fine until it's time to upgrade. wink

You might want to make some notes while the process is fresh in your mind.
