    I forgot the <insert sarcasm> part there. Inherit content would be a very bad idea.

      I use @INHERIT a lot.
      It's one of the things I learned from you, Susan. smiley

        Crud...@INHERIT doesn't play well with *tvName:isnot=``:then=`

        I assume because the tv remains empty regardless of if it inherits anything or not.

        I think it might work better if I change it to a radio box and use If. I'm using this for a sidebar chunk that's not dependent on the existence of a Wayfinder call, I think it will be easier for users with yes||no anyway.

        Too tired now though. That's two whole new TV's to create. heh...

          Hmm. I suppose, it wouldn't, as only the parent resource would actually have the setting, and all of its children have @INHERIT as their value. However, I think you could use an output snippet instead, fetching the parsed output value of the TV using one of the API functions. Might be worth a try, anyway.

            Ok, done snoozin'!!

            Now you guys have completely lost me. Not only am I stupid about this stuff but I'm a Brit as well. So, that's a double hit of dumb.

            I can't tell if we're still talking about side and top menus or we're talking about top level menu/page items that go nowhere when clicked.

            I'm interested in the latter because I'm happy with the solution you guys gave me earlier.

            Basically I want to reproduce this in my website:

            <ul class="bul-vmenu">
                              <li><a>Paintings</a>
                                <ul>
                                  <li><a href="categories/paintings/watercolours.html">Watercolours</a></li>
                                  <li><a href="categories/paintings/oils.html">Oils</a></li>
                                </ul>
                              </li>
                              <li><a>Glass</a>
                                <ul>
                                  <li><a href="categories/glass/glass-art.html">Glass Art</a></li>
                                  <li><a href="categories/glass/stained-glass.html">Stained Glass</a></li>
                                </ul>

            There, for 'Paintings', you can see the <a> tag but no <href.....> and thus, if you click it, it stays where it is, but if you hover it shows the child items.

            At the moment in my Modx site 'Paintings' is not the top item. It's inside a container (as suggested) called 'Left Menu Documents' to help my partner.

            I've included the list in a graphic below.

            To all three of you who are helping me - many, many thanks. I really do want to get this site working nicely and you're doing a great job of helping me.

            xxxxx

            Keith

            ps. Just a reminder that the site is www.bulgallery.bg

            pps The html version of the site is www.artistic.bg [ed. note: keithbrook last edited this post 14 years ago.]

              These will be helpful, especially the cheatsheet. http://free.sottwell.modxcloud.com/tech/wayfinder.html

              You need to have a &categoryFoldersTpl (basically a copy of your rowTpl only without the a href= part), and have the category resource have a link attribute of rel = "category" and/or a blank template. It also must have children (can't be using hideSubmenus property). Of course, you can hide/show the submenus with CSS or Javascript.

                Sorry, it got a bit sidetracked.

                Set the resource to have an empty template, then set the link attributes field to
                 rel="category".

                Make a new chunk, call it categoryFolderTpl

                insert this code:

                 <li[+wf.classes+]>[+wf.linktext+]</a>
                             [+wf.wrapper+]
                </li>

                Call Wayfinder, something like this:

                [[!Wayfinder? &startId=`0` &categoryFoldersTpl=`categoryFolderTpl` &rowTpl=`rowTpl` &innerTpl=`innerTpl`]]

                (include your other parameters of course)

                  Hi Girls!!!

                  Thanks for the link, Susan, I've been looking for those for ages.

                  Now, Frogabog, which resource are you talking about? The 'Paintings' type pages or what?

                  xxxx

                    Just to add to my previous question, is there a typo with categoryFolderTpl?

                    In the listing it's called categoryFoldersTpl (folders, plural)

                      The property is categoryFoldersTpl; the chunk can be named anything you like.
