Over a number of years, I've had a few incidents of corrupted files during a lengthy FTP upload of the unarchived files. Usually it involved one of the multitudinous .js files somewhere. Revo has a lot more of these as part of the Manager so I've been careful to upload the whole archive then unzip it in place on the server.

It's faster and safer. FTP is not safe, and very slow. Plus, since FTP can't unpack files in the first place and you have to load up the server control panel, why even bother with it?

Updating the docs with this tidbit of information would save the forum from a number of continual posts that require mentioning this in replies.

MODX needs a volunteer doc updating committee for things like this. Comprised of people who aren't too busy making MODX spectacular.

@Frogabog: anyone who wants to help writing and improving the documentation is invited to do so! There's a few (mostly technical) hurdles that prevent us from enabling true SSO with the documentation, but we're going to be looking into ways to make it easier for people to help.

Anyone that doesn't have access to editing the RTFM should log issues at http://tracker.modx.com/projects/docs/issues (which is SSO with the rest of the site), which is where active maintainers are sourcing improvements to make from.

People that wish to help need to send an email to [email protected], mentioning their MODX.com username and what part (Evo, Revo, Extras) they want to get access to.
