I have some questions for experienced Gallery users who have been using gallery to manage relatively big amount of images.
First question is regarding gallery timing strictly and would be how to speed up the gallery. I have conducted some test and the outcomes are as follows:
Note that I have disabled image tags for testing purposes so images itself are not loaded, just the image titles.
- The Gallery snippet timing for outputting 1300 images (30 per page) from one album takes 3.0-4.5 seconds
- The select statements executed directly in the database take around 0.30 sec
- Wrapping the Gallery snippet with getPage snippet exceeds the load time dramatically and most often times out the page load.
My question would be how to speed up the images loading process? Isn't 4 seconds too much for the gallery snippet to handle 1300 images request where only 30 is displayed per page?
I think (and user experience gurus would agree) that outputting 30 images should take 1-2 seconds maximum...I know that analyzing the queries itself and improving these would be the solution, but these are quite fast in means of MySQL handling the request so there must be some improvements that cane be done on MODX side I guess.
Another question is why getPage works fine with the gallery of approx 20 images and fails totally to return a page of 30 images out of 1300?
I would appreciate any tips regarding Gallery plugin when being used with such big amount of images.
