I’ve set up a document group that sets manager access for documents to private so they can only be edited by admins. The problem is many of the documents are folders and while I want the folder to be locked, the many documents under the folder need to be edited by content contributers. The manager hides the private folder and everything in it to anyone not a site admin or in the document group. How can I make it viewable by these people but disallow them access to edit the folder?

      I guess this isn’t something thats supported then. Consider it a feature request.

        Though no official support has been added to the manager interface, you can add the following to the {table_prefix}system_settings table to make the nodes visible even if the user does not have permission to that node:

setting_name
        setting_value

tree_show_protected
        1

Here is a SQL statement you can execute (in phpMyAdmin or from mysql command line) to add (or update) the record.
        REPLACE INTO `{table_prefix}system_settings` (`setting_name`, `setting_value`) VALUES ('tree_show_protected', '1');

        NOTE: Be sure to replace {table_prefix} with the actual table_prefix you used to install MODx, e.g. modx_, and refresh your site cache after adding this setting. This only works in version 0.9.6 or later.

          Yup that worked, thanks for the help! With such a simple change wouldn’t this be an easy option to add to the Tools->Configuration? Something to think about.
