    Hey Guys

I'm starting a new project and there isn't really much contest to modx. What I would like to hear from you guys are tips and pointers regarding structure, snippets plugins etc.

    Here are a list of needed features;

    • 200 something products need to indexed into categories and collections.
A product can only part of one collection, but be part of multiple categories. in other words the client will create one product and with "tags" decide where the product should be listed in collections and categories.
    • The site needs to be multilingual with up to 9 languages.
Preferably with in one context as I believe multiple would confuse my client.
    • Front-end content creation.
Client should be able to create and update content from front-end
    • Friendly urls
      Preferably like site/en/products/categories/category/product and site/en/products/collections/collection/product

I'm hoping that some of you have had similar projects and would love to hear your ideas regarding structure of the site-tree what snippets and plugins to use to accomplish this task.

I don't have experience with ecommerce sites or multi-lingual sites, so I can't contribute much, but I do have one thought about URL structure.

I would go with /site/en/products/collections/collection/product rather than trying to use the categories for the URLs of specific products. Ideally a product should have only one URL. If you use tags to do the categories you'll have tag pages that list products with the same tag, but links on those pages should point to the collection-based URL of the product.

From an SEO perspective, you want to avoid duplicate content whenever possible. There are workarounds you can use if you already have duplicate URLs, but my advice would be that in the design phase of a project, plan to do everything possible to ensure that each page is only ever accessed through a single URL.

        HI freejung

Those are some very valid points. SEO is very important, so if it is conditioned on pages having ONE single URL yours is absolutely a thing to consider.

I will keep your thoughts in mind when going forward.

Anyone else care to comment? Possibly on some of the other feature needs?

        Best Regards

For the products you could probably do something with MIGXdb in order to keep the resources at a minimum.

For multi-lingual babel but not sure if it works with a single context

Front End content creation: NewsPublisher hands down

          Friendly URL up to you.

I hope some of that gives you an idea what you can use.

          Good luck.

Thank you for pointing out MIGXdb, I had seen it on the addons page but thought it was pointed at a specific api much like some of googles api's. What i can gather from the resources is that it lets me create child resources within a parent resource. But is this mainly to eliminate clutter in the resource tree or does it come with additional benefits?

I've looked at NewsPublisher but will dwell deeper with your recommendations. I wonder if NewsPublisher works with MIGXdb?

            Best regards
