I'm running Revolution 2.2.0-pl2 (traditional) on a couple of sites. I'd like to update these sites to the soon-to-be released version 2.2.5. Is it safe to update directly to 2.2.5, or should I update to 2.2.1, then to 2.2.2 etc.?

In general, how does one know if it's safe to skip updating through intermediate versions? Does the version numbering scheme perhaps indicate unambiguously what is safe vs. unsafe?

Suggestion: Clarify this in particular versions' release notes and/or in http://rtfm.modx.com/display/revolution20/Upgrading+MODx [ed. note: halfnium last edited this post 13 years, 7 months ago.]
I looked just like that in 1964.

In theory, MODX runs all the upgrades in between the old and new version, so it doesn't matter as long as the old version is > 2.0. In practice, there are sometimes hitches (mostly caused by installed plugins). It's always a good idea to back up the old site first and temporarily disabling all plugins can make success more likely.

Be sure to log out before upgrading and it's usually a good idea to clear your browser cache and cookies before logging in after the upgrade.
