It's always nice to be on a MODX-friendly host (and one with a full-featured control panel). wink

I've had good luck with MODX at Bluehost: http://bit.ly/Hb5CAY

I couldn't agree more. I recently learned the hard way though.

I recently spent over 2 months messing with a server that was just pretending to be capable of running MODX, always presenting one kind of problem or another, which meant hours upon hours of work trying to track down the exact problem and fix it. I got it all fixed up, only to result in the discovery that the server changes their root directory name periodically and nothing could be done on my end, or within MODX to deal with a "randomly changing installation path". huh

I finally was DONE with it all and I suggested very strongly that my client get a refund for the remaining years she paid for, and moved the site to a capable server (Hostgator shared). It went right in, and has functioned perfectly ever since. I should have NEVER tried to do otherwise. It's just not worth the headache.

More than a few red flags with a server should be word to the wise... Unless your client is paying you hourly, you're going to lose far too much of your life messing with things that don't have to be issues at all. It's not MODX's fault. MODX doesn't care much where it's installed, as long as there is some way to control the environment. Without that, you're chasing your tail far too much.
