Hi guys Im looking for some good websites for learning modx revolution. Ones that are up to date and complete. Another plus would not have to buy themes and code etc just to do some basic steps.

Ive found a few videos on youtube spent hours doing one the other evening and it finishes before the project does sad the one complete one Ive found will cost me to complete it.

Im looking for a complete video or something that shows the whole process of building a website in modx just to get me starting then moving onto the more advanced functions and plugins etc.

Once I've got teh basics under my belt I will look to buy the modx Learn book by Bob on the homepage does anyone recommend this ? is it up to date and a good book to learn from.

While I'm still taking small steps learning I don't want to have to spend. I want to learn. Just looking for all the good uptodate info I can get my hands on for now.

    Thxs to anyone who helps....

There's also another site with articles and tutorials and another book (I always prefer to have three different sources of information to get different viewpoints on everything) http://www.shawnwilkerson.com/modx-revolution/

Try installing the Flexibility Extra. It wasn't until I had a full working site to play around with and "see" the TV's, snippets, and chunks actually functioning that I found myself with much working understanding. I'd mucked about with the MODX Boilerplate prior to that, but the TV's still had me confused and I couldn't specify parameters in a snippet call to save my life.

Actually, the video tutorials at Design From Within were in fact... prior to the first Flexibility package release, what really did the trick for the basics (working with MODX Boilerplate). Being able to play with a working site with Flexibility afterwards allowed many ahh ha! moments to move forward with.

Flexibility is not extra comprehensive, but it contains all the basics such as a working Wayfinder menu, various getResources calls dependent on TV values, MIGX based slider, custom TV output with the Switch snippet, static resources, a gallery, contact form, jquery lightbox, search with results page, etc. At the moment, it's missing some biggies like Articles and a calendar, but you'll figure those out. The best part is that it's a fully functional responsive grid based on Foundation which is super slick IMO.

I would suggest that you first download Flexibility 2 first (the package just prior to V3.0) because the dropdown menu in V3.0 is giving me fits at the moment, and I know it works nicely in 2.1.1 .
You can get prior versions at GitHub. 2.1.1 is here 2.1.1 uses Foundation2, while Flexibility 3.0 uses Foundation3 (different, yet the same in many ways). To see what that means, enjoy the Foundation site

Thanks Bob your book will be purchased as soon as I have the spare cash. Bit pricey for me at the moment but think I may ask the other half to get it me as a Christmas present as its just round the corner now.

For the moment Im just trying to pick up as much information as possible then I will use your book as my 3rd bible along side my HTML5 Book and CSS the missing manual. I hear its a great read.

Is there anywhere online to look at sample of the content. What style is the book written is it for example in the style of the missing manual where each chapter theres some information regarding an area of CSS and then once you have digested all the Information at the end of the chapter theres a step by step process which you follow and use everything you have just learnt in that chapter.

I find I learn alot better by doing something, if I just read vast amounts of Information it never seems to sink in sad
