The website I am working on is very basic and was built by a pro. I have updated some footer chunk text in a very very minor way, without knowingly damaging the html. I saved and made sure ‘publish’ was checked and that the clear cache box was checked. The text change shows up in the preview but not the public site, even with a cache-free browser refresh. The public website text is unchanged from the old version. What have I done wrong?!

Important note: I am not a computer pro. I work in office (the place rather than the programme) admin. I was asked to do something which seemed too small to farm out to our computer person. Help appreciated.

      ... even with a cache-free browser refresh

Did you refresh the cache in the MODx Manager, itself? MODx caching is different from Browser caching.

Yes, thanks. I have both 'clear cache on exit' checked and tried 'Clear cache' under the site menu option.

It always says 'Saved / Save successful' when a change is made and publish on saving is checked, wherever that option is.

This time I tried deleting the entire footer text, saved, confirmed it disappeared in the preview, exited Modx and checked, but it is still there, as in the original version when the site proper is loaded (on a couple of computers, so it's not at the client end...).

        Am totally flummoxed

If it is working on the preview, it should be working on the published side. This implies that you have two environments: a development site and a production site. Can you confirm that this is not the case?

Note: One way to confirm this is to "match" the URLs of the preview vs. the client.

I think something is wrong here, "chunks" do not have a "published" option.

Good eye! Is it possible you are trying to use a Resource as a Chunk?

Sorry, my sloppiness to blame. The publish check box is in the resources section (create/edit document tab), so unrelated to this issue.

With this, we could be zeroing in on the problem. The modx editor and preview site end in idev-web.co.uk, whilst the site proper ends in .net. I assumed this was natural.

I also tried another experiment: changing the resource content on a specific page, with the same result – the changed text shows up on the preview but not the site proper.

Do you think I am missing a publication step, or is it something about the setup?

You are looking at two totally different sites. If you expect to see any changes on the .net site, then you need to use its Manager (domain.net/manager/)
