hi there,
our dedicated linux server is currently running PHP 4.3.9 with mySQL 4.1.20 and we are using MODx 0.9.6
due to specific requirements of a new project we need to upgrade both PHP and mySQL to the latest versions (v5). will anything in MODx will be effected by this upgrade? is there anything that is v4 specific that may not work in v5? has anyone had any dodgy experiences performing this upgrade? (the server is currently running 4 live MODx sites all using v0.9.6)
many thanks!
I run MODx 0.9.5 and 0.9.6 on servers with PHP4, MySQL4, PHP5 and MySQL5 and I haven’t experienced any problems.
Andy
In fact, in the next revisions I hear there will be some new bonuses for running php5.

Shouldn’t be a problem with MODx core; it might if you have custom snippets or TVs that use PHP 4 specific code. And watch out for your MySQL configuration settings; sometimes these can be a problem if one is in "strict" mode and the old one isn’t. I’ve moved a number of sites from one server to another with all different versions of PHP and MySQL with only a few minor server configuration issues.
Watch out for any older code that uses the short tag format of <? rather than <?php
That was the only problem I had with a move from PHP 4 to 5

Again, that’s a configuration issue... either version’s php.ini can have short_open_tags on or off.
