It turns out to be extremely simple to have Vanilla accept a logged-in MODx user. This is for Revo, but just changing how the user data is retrieved (it's all in the SESSION) would make it work for Evo as well.

No, that forum does not take registrations, it's only for demo purposes. Just log in to MODx, then go to the forum, and login... on the right will be an option to use the MODx login.
