Flash file not able to dynamically load images

I have a Flash .swf file -- which is stored in the assets/flash/ directory -- and some images -- which are stored in the assets/images/ directory.

The .swf file is supposed to load the images dynamically from the assets/images/ directory. Outside of MODx, it does work.

However -- in MODx -- the Flash file loads... and then nothing happens. It can’t seem to find the images.

I am using the SWFObject method of loading the Flash file. The page has a base URL assigned in the head.

Any ideas on how I can get the .swf to find the images?

Flash will not be respecting the base HTML element’s href property as the base URL, unless you are passing it to the Flash as a parameter of some kind; it will likely be looking for the images relative to it’s physical location on the web server.

I am using friendly URLs.

I am not actually the one writing the Flash -- that’s my Dad. He has written the Flash using root-relative URLs to reference the images, but it still can’t find them.

So, the advice is then to either place the .swf and images in the root directory OR use absolute URLs within the .swf, correct?

Those would both work, or, to make it portable from deployment to deployment, you could use a variable you pass to the movie to get the site_url (you can use GET or POST) in the Flash movie using loadVariables() or similar.
