    Hi All!

    I'm coming from ExpressionEngine and thinking of playing around with MODX for a few upcoming clients that are wanting a truly integrated forums with their website (single sign-on, etc). EE has forums but they are terribly out-dated and are INSANELY time-consuming to skin. What, if any, are my options for forum modules over here in the MODX world and how hard are they to skin?

    Thanks!

      I like using the Vanilla forum and their single-sign-on module. It's easy to skin, especially if you install a pre-made skin that's somewhat similar to your main site.

        Susan,

        I see you recommending Vanilla a lot, and it seems to be a frequent need/request here. You don't happen to have a tutorial stuck in your mind somewhere for implementing Vanilla Forum into MODX do you? I'm sure you have plenty of time to do this, right? heh... jk.

          Ok. I'll see what I can do. The only thing I did write up was some years ago using a different, older sso module with Vanilla

            Thanks. I know all about Vanilla. EE has an integration for it as well. But what I'm wondering is if there is any forums add-on directly for MODX? What forums is this we're chatting on?

              This is a native Revo forum package called "Discuss". It's still under development and not deemed ready for any kind of public release yet. Supporting it would be a nightmare at this point.

                This part confuses me. How do I define these lines if it asks for specific user information?

                // 3. Fill in the user information in a way that Vanilla can understand.
                $user = array();

                if ($signedIn) {
                   // CHANGE THESE FOUR LINES.
                   $user['uniqueid'] = '123';
                   $user['name'] = 'John PHP';
                   $user['email'] = '[email protected]';
                   $user['photourl'] = '';
                }

                  In your snippet, fetch these values from the database for the user in question. The uniqueid would be the internalKey, the name would be fullname, etc.

                  I just installed Vanilla on my MODx Cloud, and will be working with it off and on as time permits.
