Hi, when i want to install the MODx, im getting 500 Internal Server Error at some hosts, when i talk to the host support, it’ll be OK. but just curious what causes the problem?
The latter detail:
Linux // Apache: 1.3.37 (Unix) // PHP: 4.4.6 // MySQL: 4.1.21-standard // MODx 0.9.6
Thanks!
Often this is caused by including PHP directives or other code your host doesn’t support in your .htaccess file. Many hosts require you to put PHP directives in particular in a php.ini file instead of in .htaccess. You can also get a 500 error if you have set your file permissions incorrectly, for example if your host has setup PHP to run via Suexec instead of as a service.
With some hosts you do need to email them to change the php.ini file, although you can get rid of the 500 errors by commenting out those lines in your .htaccess file.
