    I inherited a MODX website to help bring to life and I am also new to MODX. While the site loads, a gallery is presented and the viewer sees a full list of images parading down the screen. After the load is complete then overflow hidden is invoked and the gallery performs as expected. Any hints to prevent this behavior would be appreciated.
    The site is http://coopcare.org/ .
    Thanks!

      I should mention that this is MODX Revolution with the Gallery item off the Component menu.

        You can use a small style block in the template head to control the display; perhaps setting the position of the a tags something like this:
        <style>
        .orbit-gallery {position:relative;}
        .orgit-gallery a{display:block;position:absolute;
        }
        </style>

        Adjust the top and left or right of the a blocks as necessary.

        This is just one idea off the top of my head. There are any number of ways to do this. You might even try the overflow:hidden as an inline style for the .orbit-gallery div. I don't generally approve of inline styles, but there are times when they server a purpose.

        Keep in mind that most if not all Javascript files should be loaded at the bottom of the page, just before the closing body tag. Loading javascript causes the rest of the content to wait until the file has been fetched and loaded.

        You also might want to change that window.load function to document.ready function; then the javascript controlling the images will start working sooner. It's a JQuery abstraction of the DOMContentLoaded javascript function that emulates it if the browser doesn't support it. This means the javascript will start working as soon as the basic HTML structure is built, without waiting for everything, including all images, to fully load.

          Susan:
          The document.read() seems to work for Chrome, but not IE8. Is that possible. I'll try your other suggestions. Thank you.

              It's entirely possible. IE 8 is a pain in the neck in general, especially its Javascript engine.

              Possibly this may have something to do with the problem as well http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fcoopcare.org%2F&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0 [ed. note: sottwell last edited this post 14 years, 2 months ago.]

                Hi Susan:
                Thanks for the Help. I found the errant </div> and fixed it, so I am down to one error in the generated HTML.
                The other error is more curious and I am not sure it is related to the slide show problem but it is curious none the less.
                In trying to find out why there was an illegal use of an ordered list I copied the output source and placed it into a text editor, in my case Codewright.
                I see a “?” a question mark, 3F located after the </li>, and before the </ul> on line 295 and 296 of the generated HTML from the twitter generated content.
                I don’t know how this happens and will look into it but I don’t think this is the source of the slide show problem on IE
                I will let you know what I find out.

                  No, that's not likely to be the problem.

                    Odd think is, I've used plenty of galleries and slideshows, all using JQuery with the $ shortcut for document.ready(), and never had a problem. Did you choose the one you are using, or does it come with Gallery? I haven't used Gallery yet, so I don't know much about it.

                      You know, looking at that page, do you really need Gallery for it? You're just using it on the home page for the slideshow, right? You might be better off with a simple TV or snippet that pulls the images directly from a folder on the server, and generates the proper HTML list for any one of a number of simple JQuery slideshows. That's what I've done with this site http://deafbusiness.org/
