Seaching for the way to add custom end-user helptexts inside the manager, for example to explain syntax and use of sertaing TV's.

Read about creating a manager/help-folder and place files there, but nothing happens and i cant find documentation about it.

The package HelpManager i suppose is only for Evolution...?
    I use Revo 2.2.2

Any suggestions? [ed. note: johnjohn22 last edited this post 11 years, 7 months ago.]

      • As far as I can see, the help system is hard-coded to link to the MODx documentation relevant to the element being edited.

Do you want to modify the individual help items, or create a custom Help section?

In the second case, create a CMP and put its action in the System -> Support section of the System -> Actions page. Usually a CMP ends up in the Components menu, but they don't have to.

          Hi Susan,
I just would like some way to write specific instructions for endusers to help them understand how to enter data in the manager when logged in.

I thought one could use the bulit in helpsystem as in evolution but this http://tracker.modx.com/issues/7786 discussion indicates its not possible...?

The TV's description appears after its caption. You could put your instructions there if they're not too long.

Thx Bob, that possibility i'm aware of and not quite sufficient.

What i would like most is a area below the last element on the resources-update-page that prints the content of another resource (a "help" resource). This could be just an id setting that tells which resource to use, if nothing it looks same as today.

If i would like to TEST this, where do i find the structure for the resource-page in the core?
I'm aware hacking the core is not a good idé, but one could try for knowledge wink

You should be able to add data to the page with a plugin connected to OnDocFormPrerender without modifying the core code. You could also do it with JavaScript by using RegClientStartupScript() in the plugin.

An even easier method would be to use NewsPublisher to have the users edit the resource in the front end. It would be very easy to insert your help text below the NewsPublisher form (or possibly in a read-only field in the form itself).
