    Hello,
I am setting up user roles and I would like to have 2 Administrator roles. "Admin A" and "Admin B".
I also give them the same authority of "1".

When I am setting up context access, the only minimum role I am able to pick is always the last Admin role I created.

For example, if I create "Admin A", then "Admin A" is the available minium role. If I then create another admin role with the same authority, "Admin B", the only available minimum role is "Admin B". "Admin A" is no longer available.

I would like to have 2 different groups - I am really trying to segment my users. Not sure if its a bug or if it's something I've done wrong.

    Thank you!

If the two Roles have the same authority level, there's really no point in having two, since the authority level is the only point of Roles in Revolution. You should just call the Role SubAdmin. The only reason to have two roles is if you want to Admin A to have more or fewer permissions than Admin B when they are both in the same User Group.

That said, it does sound like it might be a bug in the way MODX handles Roles.

BTW, the authority levels are completely arbitrary, so if you really want two Roles just to have a different Role name as a reminder to you of who they are, you could just as easily use 1 and 2, 9 and 10, or any two numbers). As long as the users in the group have a Role with the minimum authority level set in the ACL entry, they'll get the specified Policy.

        Thanks Bob,
I figured the authority was arbitrary, but wasn't sure. I am running multiple business units from a single install, so while I completely agree, there isn't a reason to have duplicate roles, I would like to have it just to keep business unit A as separate from business unit B as possible.

        Thanks for your time!

Glad I could help. Just remember that (other than helping you remember who is who) the only point of Role/authority in Revolution is to let you give different users in the same User Group different capabilities.

People coming from Evolution are often confused by this because in Evo, the user's capabilities are tied directly to the Role. In Revolution, they are determined by the Policy that is applied in a particular situation.
