    Hi

I've been asked to look maintain a site that is already built in Expression Engine. Personally, I prefer MODX but I have to work with what I've been given and EE is not a bad system at all.

One nice thing I notice about EE is the use of what they call 'Channels'. Channels are 'buckets' for your content as EE doesn't natively use Resources or a file tree.

ExpressionEngine stores your content inside Channels. Channels are simply information and are completely independent from the pages your visitors see, which are known as Templates. Templates contain any markup you desire (ExpressionEngine affords 100% control over the markup on every page) as well as ExpressionEngine Tags which pull in bits of content dynamically.

So if you have a 1,000 news articles, you'd create a Channel called 'News' and pull the content from the relevant Channel into a Template.

Is it a fair to say that MODX Articles and EE Channels are similar and can be used in similar ways?
I know Articles is normally used for blogging but could I have Multiple Articles in my MODX tree for any section of my site that requires multiple resources.

Articles is just a wrapper for a Resource Folder since every article inside of it is a child resource which are all hidden by default in order to render faster on the backend.

Yes you can use multiple Article containers for any section of your site so yes they are similar in that manner but they are different since Articles are resources and I would assume EE Channel Entries are stored in a database.

      Good luck.

Thanks for clarifying. I thought articles were simply database entries but I can see now that they're actual resources.
