REVO now runs on SQLite!

Hello everyone,

I have finished the implementation of SQLite for MODx,
in the last two days, I have debugged everything,
specialy the step's installation. and everything seems fine.

I have not had time to try, all Manager SQL sentence, but theoretically incompatibility issues are been resolved.

Surely there are many points to be improved at the level of configuration
but I've tested successfully on various platforms.

OS and platforms:
X86 PC: Matriux 1 krn2.6
X86 PC: Lubuntu 12 krn3.0
ARM Cortex-A8 N900: Maemo 5 krn2.6
(Compatible 100% with BeagleBoard , PandaBoard, etc)

apache2
SQLite 3
ext. php-sqlite

I uploaded everything in a release-2.2 branch, this:

So, I want to thank all MODx team for the splendid work done with the core,
The truth was very simple to implement the database with PDO abstraction and without touch the core, it must be said that many files were ready for implementation.

I hope that those who work with embedded platforms to take advantage of this implementation.

This is indeed awesome @RTOSKit! Thank you for your proactive contribution. Is this ready to be integrated? Or are you waiting for some feedback before submitting a Pull Request? I'll review it and provide feedback if you are ready for it.

@fuzzicallogic: SQL Server is already done. I am working with another contributor to complete PostgreSQL and Oracle drivers for both xPDO and MODX next.

Thanks for the congratulations. but really believe me MODx internal design makes many of these implementations have great facility.

Who like me, loves BSD systems, he liked a lot the multilayer abstractions within MODx, everything has its place, and there is no jumping fools from a layer to another.

If you repeat the greatest compliments I have to go to the MODx team and, of course including all community development and community support MODx.

Not now!, I'm working and an vectors execution engine fully native for Revo,
which allows secure transmissions to remote devices, with many encryption algorithms, symmetric key systems, and also complete public key mechanisms,

An example of this kind service is the "reCaptcha" of Google, well with this
" vectors engine" you can take your "snippets" and "chunks" MODx to a remote device, a remote site, or the same server, in complete safety, without worrying in developing MODx MVC2 mechanisms.
The engine develops a secure framework for you to implement all the security features native to MODx.

I am also healing the graphic look a lot simpler for all configurations. (There are many)
I think in a couple of weeks I should be able to launch a beta,

If it's really ready, but I think it has to control some integrations:

• As I had some compatibility problems SQL language such as "max", "INTEGER PRIMARY KEY", etc.
  I worry that any Update or Insert statement using any keys are not compatible with sqlite3
  



• The safety mechanism of the database,
  Currently the database is in a secure directory within the directory "core" and only a localhost callback accessed and could implement the use of user and password in the url, but you have to consider how best it can be also outside of apache and linux.
  



• Charsets properly implemented, that I am proving now, theoretically sqlite, should be complete implementation of the utf8 and utf16
  REVO (PDO) effectively creates a database UTF-8 but I definiately check if the data are treated.
  



• The installation panel , you should add a check for the existence of the directory of the database and the "hostname" field in the case of sqlite is used to move to another directory, and it may be better to rename the field label.
  



• This night had much sleep and been doing a lot revert to the repo
  I will look if all changes are in correctly added
  

I'm checking that can be integrated successfully, and I'm also hoping that someone from the MODx team, see if everything was done correctly.

Is very close

Ok, I've done several tests, and improved many points I will list here:

• Installation:
       Panel customization for sqlite,
       creating tables (all the inconsistencies have been resolved in abstraction).



• Security DB:
       Protected directory, and protected access, I think this is the best option
       and can be deployed on any webserver



• Charsets:
       Currently only with UTF-8, I have to finish the tests for
       whether accepts "unicode" or just "general"



• Out of abstraction:
       The SQLite does not allow the "IF" statement and found a sentence outside
       abstraction in the file "modresource.class" and I had to change to a
      "CASE THEN" statement that theoretically should work well in mysql, sqlsrv and
       sqlite.



•  I am testing, statement by statement in the Manager Panels, if exist errors.




• I cleaned the sqlite-2.2 repository, I added il "core.transport.zip" so this
      ready to test the installation.
      If someone wants to get off the shareware, to find bugs or inconsistencies
  
      I will try to solve them quickly.
  I hope someone also "Team MODx" can try this version.
  



• I have tested successfully, the installation of the version in the branch "sqlite-2.2"
      I have tested on a production server: CentOS 5.8 x86_64 and flies
      8 seconds the installation is complete! attention on localhost may be
  somewhat more  slow the installation.

I had just been reading about SQLite and how flexible it seems, one of the problems I run into is when developing locally there's not a good way to sync a local mySQL database with a remote database.

If I am correct, SQLite seems like a good solution to this?

Should the installation of this setup be quite straight forward?

Hi Adam,

I do not know exactly what the problem you have with mysql,
but usually mysql is always the right choice, especially for a service that needs scalability and a good response on loading Distributed Processes.

I personally admire very much the SQLite project, but in my opinion,
SQLite is a choice that has more sense in local test services and embedded solutions.

The esperimental version of "Modx with SQLite" still being tested only on embedded devices.
The installation is simple as the other installations, but some features, such as the installation of packages have to be done manually. And the extras have to be modified to work with SQLite.

During this time I have a little overworked, and as soon as possible try to make a friendlier version of the package.

In any case, the current version is available on github.
