Hello, all. Warning - more newbiness
I have several large OpenOffice documents that I wish to post and then maintain on-line via MODx. I would like to make three versions available, a modular html version, a monolithic html version and a downloadable pdf. I would prefer to not have to maintain three versions of the same document. What is the best way to do this?
I am guessing that I would put all the small "modules" into chunks. I would then create a container document and create a document for every module underneath it. Each module page would have Next, Previous and contents tags as well as the chunk for each module. I could then use Wayfinder in the container document to create an automated table of contents with hyperlinks based upon the document hierarchy underneath the container page. That gives me the modular version. I suppose I can make the Next,Content and Previous labels part of the template but am stuck creating each link for Next,Content and Previous labels manually. Is there an easier, more automated way?
How do I do the long document? I could create a single document with a manually created table of contents at the top, all of the chunks underneath with an anchor for each chunk. The table of contents would then link to each anchor. That not only sounds like a horrific amount of work to create but also difficult to maintain. If I forget to manually add the chunk to the monolithic document, the monolithic and modular documents will go out of sync. Is there a better way?
Finally, is there any good way to then convert the monolithic document into a downloadable PDF? I noticed some earlier threads with no definite conclusions and some on-line products that will do this. Does anyone have it running? Thanks - John
